Surrenders

Unfortunately not everything always goes to plan. Circumstances such as a change in housing situation, financial hardship or the realisation that keeping a pet takes time can result in the need to rehome a pet reptile or amphibian. If you are no longer able to care for your reptile or amphibian then Homeless Herps may be able to help. Homeless Herps provides a safe, species-appropriate alternative to selling or abandoning your pet. By surrendering through us, you give your reptile or amphibian the best chance at a stable, knowledgeable forever home. Homeless Herps takes surrendered animal in on a case-by-case basis dependent on several factors including the species involved and the space available to house the animal while the adoption process happens. We understand that surrendering a pet is often a difficult decision and we approach every case with empathy, respect and confidentiality.

important points

If you have animal that you would like to surrender to us, it is important to understand a few points:
  • A $100 surrender fee per animal is required to be paid prior to the animal being given to Homeless Herps.
  • All animals being surrendered must be in good health. We do not accept animals for surrender because they have health problems that need to be treated and you cannot afford to treat them or do not wish to treat. If this is the situation then we suggest contacting the RSPCA for advice.
  • Prior to being surrendered, a form is required to be completed and returned. This form legally signs the ownership of the animal over to Homeless Herps. This form is sent via email and can be completed digitally.
  • All animals being surrendered will need to be dropped off at a location in Frankston, Victoria at a time that is mutually agreed upon.
  • Homeless Herps does not take any enclosures and other equipment that you may no longer need. We suggest selling these items on Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree or similar sites.

Surrender process

If you approve of the above points and wish to surrender an animal then please reach out to us via out Contact Page or send an email to info@homelessherps.com.au Please include your name and some details as to the species of animal you wish to surrender, age of the animal and reason for the surrender. Once we have received your request we will be in touch to further assess the animal for suitability to be surrendered and adopted out. If we accept the animal we will then send you an invoice for the surrender fee and the form to be completed.
